Safety Tips
Last updated: May 26, 2026
SMTHUB connects Clients with independent local Pros. While we work to maintain a trustworthy platform, it is important to take your own precautions when hiring a contractor or accepting a job. Here are our safety guidelines.
For Clients (Homeowners)
Before You Hire
- Review the Pro's profile, ratings, and reviews before accepting a quote
- Verify that the Pro holds the required licenses for your state and trade (e.g., contractor's license, electrician's license)
- Confirm that the Pro carries general liability insurance — ask for a certificate of insurance before work begins
- SMTHUB does not perform background checks; we recommend verifying credentials independently for large or sensitive projects
- Get written quotes and confirm all project details, timeline, and payment terms in writing before work starts
During the Job
- Keep all communication within the SMTHUB platform so there is a record of agreements
- Do not pay the full amount upfront; use a milestone or completion-based payment schedule for large jobs
- If you feel unsafe at any point, trust your instincts — you have the right to stop work and contact us
- Never pay in gift cards, cryptocurrency, or wire transfers to unfamiliar individuals
After the Job
- Leave an honest review — your feedback helps other Clients and encourages quality work
- If there is a dispute about work quality, try to resolve it directly with the Pro first
- Report any Pro who behaves unprofessionally, misrepresents their credentials, or engages in fraudulent activity to support@smtconstructions.com
For Pros (Contractors)
Protecting Yourself on the Job
- Always confirm the job details and site address before arriving
- Keep communication within the SMTHUB platform until you have established trust with a Client
- Use written estimates and contracts — SMTHUB's estimate and invoice tools can help
- Carry your own liability insurance and keep it current
- Do not perform work before a deposit or payment agreement is confirmed
Reporting Concerns
- Report Clients who are abusive, refuse to pay, or engage in fraudulent behavior
- Do not engage in disputes publicly — use the platform's messaging and reporting tools
- Contact us at support@smtconstructions.com for any safety concerns or account issues
Platform Safety Standards
- SMTHUB uses HTTPS encryption to protect all data transmitted on the Platform
- Passwords are stored using industry-standard hashing — we never store your password in plain text
- We monitor for suspicious activity and may suspend accounts that show signs of fraud
- We do not sell your personal contact information to third parties
